Festive for football season, fudgy, full of texture, and easy to decorate – these Game Day Oreo Brownies are the perfect Super Bowl party treat! This from-scratch brownie recipe by Baker By Nature is the only one I make, and I can’t resist baking a themed batch for every holiday.
These football-themed Oreo brownies are packed full of crushed Oreos, chocolate chips, and M&Ms, giving them an absolutely incredible crunch. To elevate the textures and make them stand out even more, try them chilled!

One of my favorite aspects of these brownies is that the decorating is done for you with the designs on the Oreos. The cookies are topped with fun football-themed designs including helmets, players, referees, goal posts, and footballs! Add green and brown M&Ms on top and you are guaranteed to have the winning Super Bowl party dessert!

Recipe used for the Football Oreo Brownies:
Oreo Brownies by Baker by Nature
After the first bite I took into these brownies a few years back, I knew it was going to become a rare occasion that I reach for a boxed mix. While I will say that store-bought brownie mixes are delicious in their own right, these from-scratch brownies are truly something special.
All of the recipes I have tried from Ashley, of Baker by Nature, have turned out incredible. This recipe is hands the one I bake most often. I don’t find the process of making these much more difficult or time consuming than using a pre-made mix. Once you try them, you’ll taste why the few extra steps are worth it.
If you do want to save time and use a boxed brownie mix, I recommend Ghirardelli!

How to make the Oreo Brownies festive for Game Day:
With just a few adjustments, this Oreo brownie recipe becomes one that is perfectly festive for game day with a shiny-top chocolate brownie adorned with green M&Ms and football design Oreo cookies!
Add Green M&Ms: By using green M&Ms, half of the decorating work is done for you. Substitute half of the chocolate chips for the festive M&Ms in the batter – an easy swap! I found the red and green mix of holiday M&Ms on sale at my local grocery store.
I also tried adding some of the brown Mega peanut butter M&Ms on top since they resemble footballs, but they sank down into the batter (the flavor is still delicious with these scattered throughout).
Use the limited edition Game Day Oreos: Oreo is doing the decorating for us by making cookies with cute football themed designs on them! Keep a few of the Oreos whole when you place them on top, so when they are cut into squares, the fun designs are still visible.

Can I refrigerate the brownie batter before baking?
Yes! If you want fudgy brownies that have an extra depth of flavor or want to get a head start by prepping the batter ahead of time, this method is for you!
I refrigerated this brownie batter overnight and there is 100% a difference in how they turn out. They turned out a bit denser, more fudgy, and rich!
When chilling the batter, keep these tips in mind:
- Smooth the batter in the prepared pan before chilling: The batter will firm as it chills, so it is best to put and smooth it into your 9 x 9 pan before chilling. Cover it with plastic wrap before popping it in the fridge, and bake it off within 2-3 days. I like to chill it overnight.
- Add an extra 10 – 15 minutes to the baking time: The chilled brownies will take slightly longer to heat up and cook through. Bake until the directed time and then keep a close eye on them. The key indicators they are done are a shiny top, set edges, and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs (not coated in wet batter).

Tips for making the Game Day Oreo Brownies:
I follow the recipe exactly as written, but a few tips and considerations will help ensure success and a perfectly baked batch.
Line your pan with parchment paper: Lining your pan with parchment paper ensures easy removal of the brownies without any bits sticking to the sides. Use metal clips to help hold the sides of the paper down as you smooth out the batter.
Don’t overbake the brownies: Keep a close eye on the brownies as we want them to stay nice and fudgy and not overbake. If using a toothpick to test for doneness, keep in mind that the pick might hit a melty chocolate chip making them appear falsely underdone. Check a few spots if using this method. The toothpick should come out with only a few moist crumbs (not covered with wet batter). The top should be shiny with some cracks forming, and the edges set/firm.

Leave some Oreo pieces whole on top: While you will want to chop the Oreos into smaller pieces for mixing into the batter, when placing them on top, keep some whole. This way when you cut the brownies into bars you can still see the fun and festive images on the Oreos. I take my time to make sure all of the Oreos with the images are facing up to ensure no festive design is lost!
Tips for cutting the Oreo brownies into clean slices:
Achieving cleanly sliced squares of baked goods can be a challenge, but these brownies thankfully haven’t put up too much of a fight.
- First, make sure the brownies are fully cooled, and even refrigerated a bit to firm them up.
- Using a large chef’s knife, press down and then up to cut the brownies, rather than dragging the knife through. My favorite knife for this is one I picked up a few years ago – Farberware Edgekeeper 8 Inch Chef Knife.
- Wipe down the knife after each slice, and you will have gorgeous and spooky brownies you’d be proud to gift or share!

Ingredients
1 batch Oreo Brownies by Baker by Nature
Optional – Mega M&Ms (they sink into the brownies so they aren’t all visible on top but add delicious bursts of flavor)
- Helpful Tools:
Directions
- Prepare your metal pan by lining it with parchment paper.
- Follow the recipe directions for making the brownie batter with the following adaptations – Substitute half of the chocolate chips with Green M&Ms . If desired, add a few mega peanut butter M&Ms on top. Most will sink down, but they add a delicious peanut butter flavor when you get a bite of one!
- Optional – Refrigerate the brownie batter overnight. If you want extra fudgy brownies with even more depth of flavor, cover the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate the batter overnight.
- Bake brownies and allow them to fully cool in the pan before removing and slicing into squares. If you refrigerated the batter overnight, bake the brownies an extra 10 – 15 minutes (they do not need to come to room temperature before baking).
- To get clean lines when cutting the brownies, use a large chef’s knife. In one swoop, press down and lift up the knife, and wipe it off between slices if needed. Brownies that have fully cooled and have been refrigerated will slice easier and be less likely to stick to the knife.
- *Tip* – Try the brownies chilled. They stay chewy and the texture from the Oreos and chocolate chips stands out even more!
Notes
- Do not over bake the brownies. Look for a shiny, slightly cracked top and set edges.
- Chill the brownie batter overnight for extra fudgy brownies with an added depth of flavor!
- Place some larger pieces and whole Oreos on top of the brownie batter. This way, some of the football designs will stay in tact when you slice into them.
- To get clean slices, use a large chef’s knife and press it down and lift it up, rather than slicing and dragging through the brownies. Wipe the knife off between cuts and allow brownies to fully cool before slicing.
