Basic tools and ingredients needed to make the Christmas chocolate covered Oreos:
- Parchment or wax paper
- Oreos (regular or double-stuffed)
- Ghirardellhi melting wafers in white and dark chocolate
- Colored candy melts OR oil-based food coloring if coloring white chocolate
- Festive sprinkles and candy
- Kitchen tweezers (optional for sprinkle placement precision)
Important Tip: Do your best to place the sprinkles and decorations exactly where you want them on the first try. Try not to push or move the decorations after placing them, as the chocolate will dry with lumps and bumps. You may find it helpful to use tweezers for accuracy when placing the sprinkles.
How to Make the Chocolate Covered Oreo Snowmen:
These snowmen are decorated with such fun and adorable details, including a carrot nose and ear muffs!
Ingredients needed in addition to those listed above:
- Festive holiday M&Ms
- Carrot sprinkles and black “coal” sprinkles for the eyes and mouth – I used a seasonal sprinkle pack by Wilton linked here.
Steps to make the chocolate covered snowmen:
- Melt your white chocolate according to the package instructions, being careful not to overheat it.
- I like to melt mine in a liquid, glass measuring cup at half power.
- Place the Oreo flat on a fork and lower it to fully submerge it in the melted chocolate.
- Lift the fork and Oreo out of the chocolate and tap the fork on the edge of the bowl or glass to shake off excess chocolate. As you tap, you will be helping to get rid of any bubbles that may be forming.
- Gently tap/slide the chocolate covered Oreo off of the fork and onto a sheet of wax or parchment paper.
- While the chocolate is still wet, set/lean an M&M on each side of the snowman head.
- Place the carrot sprinkle in the middle of the Oreo face. Using kitchen tweezers makes it much easier to decorate.
- Next, add the black sprinkles eyes and mouth.
- Allow the dipped cookies to fully dry before touching or moving them.
How to Make the Drizzled Holly Berry Oreos:
Dipping and drizzling these Oreos creates the most beautiful design while being easy to make – the best combination!
Ingredients needed in addition to those listed above:
Steps to make the drizzled Oreos:
- Melt the dark chocolate according to the package instructions, being careful not to overheat it.
- I like to melt mine in a liquid, glass measuring cup.
- Dip half of the Oreo into the melted chocolate and lay it flat on a piece of parchment or wax paper.
- Let dry.
- Next, melt the white chocolate and pour it into a piping bag.
- Cut a small corner off of the tip of the piping bag and pipe a drizzle of white chocolate over the dark chocolate dipped portion of the cookie.
- While the drizzle is still wet, add the holly berry sprinkles. Using kitchen tweezers makes the process much easier and more precise!
How to Make the Chocolate Covered Ornaments:
These cookies are so adorable and are quite easy to make – they’re a win-win! Get creative with the ornament designs. The possibilities are endless!
Ingredients needed in addition to those listed above:

- I like to melt mine in a liquid, glass measuring cup.
- Place the Oreo flat on a fork and lower it to fully submerge it in the melted chocolate.
- Lift the fork and Oreo out of the chocolate and tap the fork on the edge of the bowl or glass to shake off excess chocolate. As you tap, you will be getting rid of any bubbles that may be forming.

- Non-pareils, jimmies, and mini M&Ms or marshmallows make excellent choices!

How to Make the Chocolate Covered Oreo Polar Bears:
These polar bear Oreos are almost too cute to eat!
Check out this post by The Monday Box which inspired them, along with detailed pictures of how to make them. There’s also instructions on how to make penguin Oreos!
Ingredients needed in addition to those listed above:
- Mini Oreos
- Mini Brown M&Ms
- Candy eyes
Helpful Tips:
Add the decorations to the wet chocolate before it hardens: This method requires you to work a bit more quickly, however I found that it helps the sprinkles meld into the chocolate base and create a more cohesive, realistic looking face.
If you don’t have brown, mini M&Ms: I had colored mini M&Ms on hand, but none that were brown. I dipped them in melted chocolate to make the snouts – it saved a trip to the store!
How to make the Christmas Tree Oreos:
These Oreos add a beautiful pop of color to your cookie assortment and are just so festive!
Check out this post by MidgetMomma for details of how to make the half-dipped Christmas tree Oreos.
Helpful Tips:
- Allow the white chocolate to fully dry before piping the green tree decoration.
- Using kitchen tweezers greatly helps with precise sprinkle placement.
- Green candy melts are the easiest way to achieve this deep green hue. If you color white chocolate, be sure to use oil-based food coloring, which is meant for coloring this type of chocolate without affecting it’s texture.
What type of chocolate can I use to dip the Oreo cookies?
Ghirardellhi Melting Wafers – These are my favorite and absolute go-to when it comes to chocolate for dipping or drizzling. It is so easy to heat and produces a beautiful shine.
- To color the white chocolate: Find an oil-based food coloring to use as water-based colors can cause the chocolate to seize, which I have experienced. I recommend using Wilton Candy Colors as they are meant for this type of chocolate.
Candy Melts – I love candy melts for adding decorative details such as a colorful drizzle. When it comes to coating the entire cookie, I find this mixture to be quite thick, however it is a good second option over coloring white chocolate.
Chopped Chocolate – You can melt solid chocolate to use for dipping, but the process is a bit tricky as you should temper it to produce a shine, and be careful not to burn it.
How should I store the chocolate dipped Oreos?
The chocolate covered Oreos should be stored in an air-tight container for 2-3 weeks. Stack them in between layers of parchment or wax paper.
Side note – Try them refrigerated! I absolutely love these chocolate covered oreos cold. Something about the firm chocolate just elevates the flavor and experience to a whole new level!
These Christmas Chocolate Covered Oreos are an irresistibly delicious holiday treat! They are perfect bite-size cookies for a party, to add to cookie gift boxes, or as a fun and interactive activity to do with your friends and family. Essentially all you need are Oreos, melting chocolate, and a variety of sprinkles – it doesn’t get much easier than that!

XOXO,
How do you get the chocolate so smooth? Mine was lumpy.
I use Ghirardelli melting wafers and microwave at half power to help prevent scorching it!
