Ingredients and supplies needed to make Easter chick chocolate covered Oreos:

Tools needed:

Ingredients needed:

  • Standard size Oreos: You can use double stuffed or any flavor variety. For these, I went with the seasonal Easter themed variation.
  • White chocolate for melting and dipping: I always use Ghirardelli Melting Wafers as the flavor is fantastic and they produce a great shine. I find candy melts to be thick and harder to work with.
  • Oil-based food coloring: Oil-based food coloring is meant for coloring this type of chocolate. Water-based food colors can cause the chocolate/candy to seize (I’ve experienced this in the past). Be sure to use the proper type of coloring or you risk having to start all over.
  • Round black sprinkles: Any small, round black sprinkles will work for the eyes. I used some from a Wilton snowman sprinkle set from the Holidays.
  • Yellow jimmies: These yellow hued sprinkles will be the little “feathers” on the top of the chick’s head.
  • Heart Sprinkles:  These heart sprinkles are dipped in orange colored white chocolate to make the “beak.” I used heart shaped sprinkles by Sweet Tooth Fairy. Update – I found these orange heart sprinkles that are much easier to use than making your own!

How to make the chocolate covered orange beak:

I made my own orange beak by dipping pink heart sprinkles into colored white chocolate. If you want to save the extra effort, I found some orange heart sprinkles that would look just as cute!

To make your own orange beaks:

  1. Melt the candy melts or white chocolate according to the package instructions, being careful not to overheat it.
  2. Add orange oil-based food coloring to the melted chocolate until you reach your desired hue.
  3. Place the heart sprinkles on a fork and dip them into the chocolate.
  4. Raise the fork out of the chocolate, and tap it on the side of the bowl to shake off excess chocolate.
  5. Gently slide/tap the chocolate covered hearts off of the fork and onto parchment or wax paper.
  6. Allow the sprinkles to cool and harden.

How to assemble the Oreo chick cookies:

  1. Separate an Oreo cookie in half by gently twisting it so you have a base with cream filling and a naked, unfrosted cookie piece.
  2. Using another unfrosted Oreo cookie half, cut or break it in half to make the “wings.” Cutting a small portion off of the inner corner of the “wing” will help both wings fit inside the Oreo.
  3. Gently place the Oreo “wings” on top of the open-face Oreo cookie with filling.
  4. Add a small amount of extra Oreo filling on top of the center of the cookie to act as glue, and lightly press the unfrosted Oreo cookie half on top to seal the sandwich.

How to dip and decorate the assembled Oreos into chocolate:

  1. Melt the white chocolate according to the package instructions, being careful not to overheat it. (I like to melt mine in a liquid glass measuring cup).
  2. Add your yellow oil-based food coloring to the melted chocolate and mix to blend until you reach your desired hue.
  3. Place the assembled Oreo on a fork and carefully lower it into the melted chocolate.
  4. Lift the fork and Oreo out of the chocolate and gently tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to shake off excess chocolate. As you tap, you will also be helping to get rid of any bubbles that may be forming.
  5. Gently tap/slide the chocolate covered Oreo off of the fork and onto a sheet of wax or parchment paper. Decorate with sprinkles quickly while it is still wet!
  6. Place two black sprinkles in the center of the Oreo for the eyes and an orange, heart shaped beak in between.
  7. Add three yellow jimmies to the top of the head to replicate feathers.
  8. Allow the Oreos to fully harden and cool before moving.

Additional tips and precautions for making chocolate dipped Oreos:

  • Do your best to place the sprinkles exactly where you want on the first try: Try not to move the decorations after placing them, as the chocolate will dry with bumps from being moved around. Sprinkle decorating tweezers make decorating SO much easier!
  • Work quickly as the chocolate can cool and harden before you can finish decorating them: Be mindful of how fast the chocolate is hardening. I find that if I am working in a cool environment, the chocolate hardens quickly and I don’t have much time to decorate.
  • If you have extra chocolate left over, have fun with playing around with different designs! I dipped the below Oreos halfway in chocolate and allowed it to harden. I then drizzled them with white chocolate and topped them with festive, pastel jimmies while the drizzle was wet. They are quite simple to make but so tasty and pretty to look at!

These Easter Chick Chocolate Covered Oreos are just as fun to make as they are to give away (and eat). They are an easy, no-bake dessert that is perfect for rounding up your friends and family to help create and enjoy. Add them to a cookie gift box, display them on platters, or eat them right off the parchment paper freshly decorated – the options are all equally satisfying!

These Easter Chick Chocolate Covered Oreos are the most adorable no-bake treat to make and decorate for Spring and Easter!

Directions

  • Lay out a sheet of parchment or wax paper.
  • Assemble the Oreo cookie chicks. Separate an Oreo cookie in half by gently twisting it so you have a base with cream filling and a naked, unfrosted cookie piece.
  • Using another unfrosted Oreo cookie half, cut or break it in half to make the “wings.” Cutting a small portion off of the inner corner of the “wing” will help both wings fit inside the Oreo.
  • Gently place the Oreo “wings” on top of the open-face Oreo cookie with filling.
  • Add a small amount of extra Oreo filling on top of the center of the cookie to act as glue, and lightly press the unfrosted Oreo cookie half on top to seal the sandwich.
  • Melt the white chocolate according to the package instructions, being careful not to overheat it. (I like to melt mine in a liquid glass measuring cup).
  • Add yellow oil-based food coloring to the melted chocolate and mix to blend until you reach your desired hue.
  • Place the assembled Oreo on a fork and carefully lower it into the melted chocolate.
  • Lift the fork and Oreo out of the chocolate and gently tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to shake off excess chocolate. As you tap, you will also be helping to get rid of any bubbles that may be forming.
  • Gently tap/slide the chocolate covered Oreo off of the fork and onto a sheet of wax or parchment paper. Decorate with sprinkles quickly while it is still wet!
  • Place two black sprinkles in the center of the Oreo for the eyes and an orange, heart shaped beak in between.
  • Add three yellow jimmies to the top of the head to replicate feathers.
  • Allow the Oreos to fully harden and cool before moving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Sprinkle decorating tweezers will help with precise sprinkle placement.
  • Be mindful of how fast the chocolate is hardening. I find that if I am working in a cool environment, the chocolate hardens quickly and I have to move fast to decorate. You can always place a drop of chocolate on the dipped Oreo to act as a “glue” and then place your decoration, however I find placing it on the cookie when wet yields the most streamline look.
